These four teams are currently attempting to acquire a key member of the Chicago Blackhawks
Kyle Davidson and the Blackhawks signed former Penguins defenseman Matt Grzelcyk to a professional tryout recently, but there remain other suitors for the veteran should things go south in Chicago.
For many pundits in the NHL, there remains shock as the veteran defenseman had
to sign a PTO in the NHL after a 40-point season in Pittsburgh.
He has no professional contract and remains on a
tryout deal, which could result in something better should he perform up to expectations. This is beneficial for Kyle Davidson, as he gets to see increased competition in the lineup.
But for Grzelcyk, he can sign anywhere at any time, and still take reps on the ice until then.
With the blueline in Chicago currently experiencing a logjam, it'd be better for both parties to go their separate ways, in our opinion.
Grzelcyk may have scored 1-39-40 points last season, but is unlikely to be even a short-term plan in the team's rebuild.
Four NHL Teams Interested in Matt Grzelcyk.
There have been four teams named as suitors for the veteran defenseman who put up 40 points last season.
It's difficult to see him turning down a deal from any of these four teams, who are closer to the playoffs than the Blackhawks.
The Senators, Avalanche, Islanders, and Ducks are all closer to the playoffs than the Blackhawks and could use depth that Grzelcyk will provide for cheap at this point of the offseason.
Last year, the defenseman
signed a one-year, $2.75 million contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins and is currently an unrestricted free agent.
The Blackhawks will have to
fend off the Senators, Avalanche, Islanders, and the Ducks if they plan on keeping Grzelcyk around past camp.
But will he decide this is the best route to take rather than sticking with a PTO that could lead to nothing?
