Leading up to the NHL draft in Los Angeles, loads of speculation began making waves around the hockey world involving the Chicago Blackhawks and what they would do with their 3rd overall pick, and it has now been decided.
Just this morning the Blackhawks were in discussions to trade their 3rd overall selection to the Pittsburgh Penguins, but talks ultimately fell apart.
Blackhawks select Frondel 3rd overall
The Blackhawks have officially drafted forward Anton Frondell from Trangsund, Sweden, with their third overall selection.
This decision to select Frondell, whose NHL comparable is Aleksander Barkov, is solely based on providing support for sensation Connor Bedard.
Standing at 6-foot-1 and 205 lbs, the 18-year-old left-handed shot forward is a nightmare for opponents to get off the puck.
His size and vision, paired alongside Connor Bedard on the Chicago Blackhawks' top line for many years to come, will give fans a familiar taste of Kane-Toews in their early years.
Despite missing out on Michael Misa, who went 2nd overall to the San Jose Sharks, the Blackhawks got arguably the finishing piece to their rebuild.
