Chicago Blackhawks captain Nick Foligno doesn't hold back when he was asked about the teams decision to trade his close friend, Taylor Hall, to the Carolina Hurricanes apart of a blockbuster 3-team trade on Friday.
For teammates of Hall, it was a tough pill to swallow finding out they've lost a key forward amidst their struggling, dead-last in the NHL season with a 15-28-5 record.
But for Foligno, a close-friend of Hall as they played together for a while in Boston with the Bruins and now in Chicago with the Blackhawks, was quite furious at the organization for dealing away Hall.
To note; Taylor Hall publicly stated to the Blackhawks that he did not want to be traded, as he's settling down in Chicago with his family with a purchase of his new home.
"I came into this year wanting to continue being a Blackhawk for years to come. I'm trying to have the best attitude I can. I'm always going to be a good pro and I'm always going to play hard. So yeah, I just keep saying it, but we'll see what happens. I'm here and I love playing with these guys still."
Hall said in an interview a few weeks backBlackhawks captain responds to the team trading Taylor Hall, and he's not happy
Foligno surely didn't mince his words on his displeasure of the trade.
"When you're not where you're supposed to be, and guys are on expiring contracts, it's the harsh reality of decisions that management has to make, and it sucks. "We have no one else to blame but ourselves, really, putting ourselves in a position where they have to start thinking about the future and selling off. It's not a fun feeling for anybody in here."
Foligno then added, with emotions in his eyes, "I wish Hallsy all the best. He was a great pro for us and a great teammate, he's a great guy, and he'll be a great friend for a long time."
For Hall, this is surely an emotional moment as he's once again moving cities with his family, and experiencing a new culture in Carolina. On the bright side, the Hurricanes are second in the NHL's Metro divisions, sitting with a 30-16-3 record.
The biggest shock of the blockbuster trade saw the Colorado Avalanche trading
Mikko Rantanen and
Jack Drury to the Carolina Hurricanes, alongside the Canes' acquisition of Taylor Hall in the 3-way trade.
The Avalanche acquired
Martin Necas, along with a couple draft picks.
The Blackhawks, retained half of Mikko Rantanen's hefty $9.25M salary, and dealt Taylor Hall to the Hurricanes, in exchange for a third round pick. Yes, you read that right, a lonely third-round draft pick.
«There's always a bright spot and there's always a positive you can take going on forward,»
Said Hall in a closing statement
We wish you the best Hallsy, go get that Stanley Cup!
