Nephew of former Blackhawks head coach Luke Richardson inks eight-year extension with Capitals
The Washington Capitals have announced a massive extension for the nephew of former Blackhawks head coach Luke Richardson on Tuesday.
Chicago Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson decided to make a bold change on December 5th,
firing Luke Richardson from their coaching staff while naming Anders Sorensen as interim head coach.
Richardson's laid-back coaching style did not benefit the underachieving Blackhawks roster, and a fresh start was much needed.
But it appears that his nephew is much needed within another NHL organization as he's inked a massive eight-year, $72 million deal with the Capitals.
Jakob Chychrun has earned himself an extension worth an annual average of $9 million per year.
Richardson's nephew was selected 16th overall in the 2016 draft, and has proven his worth as a top-pairing NHL defenseman.
Chychrun has scored 94 goals alongside 165 assists in his 532-game career so far.
Chychrun is the son of former NHL defenceman Jeff Chychrun, who won a Stanley Cup with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1992, and the nephew of Luke Richardson, who spent 21 seasons in the NHL before embarking on a coaching career.

While former Chicago Blackhawks head coach Luke Richardson is still failing to find a job at the NHL coaching level, his nephew is locked up for another eight-years, at a whopping $72 million being delivered throughout that spand.
