Former Chicago Blackhawks Stanley Cup Champion makes life-changing announcement

Andrew Shaw, who wore the Hawks uniform between 2011 and 2016, then again from 2019 to 2021, was forced to retire from the NHL in April 2021, when he was only 29 years old, due to his extensive concussion history.

Always a fan favorite wherever he played, Shaw notably won two Stanley Cups with the Hawks in 2013 and 2015, and also played for the Montreal Canadiens between 2016 and 2019.

In a personal update, the player made an announcement on social media.

On Instagram, the former NHLer revealed that he's now a proud uncle.

Over the course of his NHL career, Andrew Shaw played in 544 regular season games, scoring 116 goals and 131 assists for a total of 247 points. Known for his gritty, physical style and fearless presence in front of the net, Shaw also tallied 573 penalty minutes. In 72 playoff games, he scored 16 goals and 19 assists.

Since retiring, Shaw has embraced family life, often sharing his adventures on social media. He notably spends time coaching his kid's team:

Considering his new responsibilities, it would be surprising to see him back in the Hawks' entourage anytime soon. Even though the team's young core could benefit from his experience and great personality, it appears unlikely he'll return to the NHL in another role in the coming years.
