Jonathan Toews has been absent from the public sphere since his last game played for the Chicago Blackhawks. Even when Patrick Kane returned to the United Center, he didn't attend the Chris Chelios' jersey retirement ceremony.
He last made an appearance on Twitter, where he uploaded a video to North Dakota, his alma mater to support Captain Ryan Duncan:
He showed support for Duncan, who would take one last shift with a skate at UND, where the former Hobey Baker winner was honored.
Since his show of support he has completely been absent from the culture and happenings of hockey. Radio silence.
He hasn't officially retired as he is still considered a UFA , as the end of the 2023 NHL season saw him take time away from the game of hockey to pay attention to his health.
There's no official word on his future in the NHL, or whether he will retire or not but he has shown up for the important moments, the moments which mattered to him most, which was Ryan Duncan's final skate in North Dakota.
Toews in the long-run has nothing to left to prove to anyone as a 3X Stanley Cup Champion, Selke Trophy winner, Messier Award winner, and Conn Smythe Trophy winner.
Maybe we'll get luck enough to see him in the public eye again soon, maybe donning Hawks colors once more, when his jersey is retired.
