Former Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews is back in the NHL with the Winnipeg Jets, his hometown team, and he talks about how he is fitting in with training camp on deck.

Former Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews made his return to the NHL and will be playing for the Winnipeg Jets, his hometown team.
He hasn't played an NHL game since April of 2023 with the Blackhawks, and has missed the last 2 seasons with symptoms of Long-COVID.
He announced his intentions to come back to the NHL, and as a UFA, signed with the Jets on a 1 year deal.
Toews has been skating informally with his new teammates before training camp begins next week, and talked about how he feels now that he's back on the ice.
It's been a long time and, in a way too, it feels like the last couple years have gone by in the blink of an eye. It's almost like sometimes you don't even remember what skate you put on first. It feels good to be on the ice, you do a lot of 3-on-3 and small area stuff where you don't have a lot of space. Those are the situations where you kind of get a little bit hasty, a little bit excited, and make a play that you wouldn't have made if you were slowing things down and being a little bit more patient.

The Jets were the best team in the NHL last year, but their season ended with a WCSF loss to the Dallas Stars.
Toews, who won 3 Stanley Cups as Blackhawks captain, had 31 points (15G, 16A) in his most recent NHL season. He has 883 points (372G, 511A) in 1,067 total games.

Jonathan Toews isn't the only Blackhawks legend in another city

As hard as it is for Blackhawks fans seeing their former captain wear the sweater of another NHL team, it's almost equally as hard seeing where his top sidekick and future fellow Hall of Famer plays now.
Patrick Kane, one of the greatest players in Blackhawks history, now plays for the former divisional foe Detroit Red Wings, a sight many Chicago fans never thought they'd see.
