Derek Lalonde was asked about the status of top-six forward,Patrick Kane and it appears that Kane will be out of the lineup.
The reason Kane is out is an undisclosed injury, as the forward was absent from team practice Sunday. The team's been hush-hush about the status of the forward until today.
According to Lalonde, Kane would require "another day" to deal with a nagging injury, but can we consider him "day-to-day"? Lalonde wouldn't commit to the "DTD" status and would leave us in ambiguity.
Fortunately, while they may miss him tonight, he may not be out long-term.
Kane is playing on a one-year deal with, a $4 Million AAV that expires at the end of the 2024-2025 season.
His production has stagnated this season, with only 10 points( 3 G, 7 A) in 20 games. He rejuvenated his career last season, with 47 points in 51 games.
It's a steep decline in comparison to where he was last season, along with a Red Wings team that has struggled to stay in the win column.
While Kane's health has returned, it seems like ironically the production has dropped for Showtime in Hockeytown.
A contradiction that Derek Lalonde and Steve Yzerman will have to figure out if the Red Wings are to stay relevant into the postseason.
Back in October, it sounded like Kane was ready for the grind:
Well, it looks like there's cause for a raincheck again, for Kane.
