Once it was known that he was missing, speculation began to run rampant onto why he was not present at practice.
Kane has had reasonably good health over the past several months since recovering from his evasive hip surgery that kept him out of the NHL at the beginning of last season.
Head coach Derek Lalonde provided an update to why he was missing, and it appears to be he is battling in an upper body injury and had a maintenance day.
The 36-year-old forward has had a lackluster season as he has played 20 games, scored three goals with 7 assists for 10 points and is a - 6.
His offense has gone sporadic and sometimes nonexistent for long stretches which is very uncharacteristic of his play.
Kane was instrumental in practically willing the Red Wings to a near playoff berth last year as the team went on an incredible run in the second half and was stopped by the tiebreaker rule.
Many had hoped that Kane would return to that form early in the season but that has yet to happen.
It remains to be seen on whether Kane will remain with the Red Wings this season street as he only has a one-year deal with the Red Wings and could become a trade target that contenders would be willing to pay for especially if he can get his numbers back to where they were.
It remains to be seen on what will happen with him but in the meantime, the Red Wings hope he will come back sooner rather than later and try to help the team win more hockey games.
