Chicago Blackhawks trade two players to longtime rival Detroit Red Wings
The Chicago Blackhawks and Detroit Red Wings have combined for a trade which sees goaltender Petr Mrazek and a forward heading to the Detroit Red Wings on trade deadline day
NHL trade deadline day just got a whole lot more interesting for the Chicago Blackhawks as it appears general manager Kyle Davidson has woken up from his afternoon nap, and made a trade.
The Blackhawks have had several names in their organization being linked to trades over the past several week leading up to March 7, but one forwards name who's been kept out of the rumor scene, has been dealt.
Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman is in a tough spot at the moment, with two-injured forwards in
Andrew Copp and
Michael Rasmussen, he is in dire need of offensive slots to be filled.
Chicago Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson is licking his lips witnessing the amount of overpaying that fellow managers are giving out in exchange for assets, and he ultimately cashed in.
Full trade breakdown between the Red Wings and Blackhawks
The Blackhawks have traded goaltender Petr Mrazek, and forward
Craig Smith to the Detroit Red Wings in exchange for 25-year old Joe Veleno.
UPDATE: The #RedWings have acquired forward Craig Smith and goaltender Petr Mrazek from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Joe Veleno.
Veleno, currently has 10 points during his 56-played for the Red Wings this season.
Craig Smith, a 968-game veteran has 16 in 40 this season, and has been sidelined due to injury for a few games.
The Blackhawks are getting younger, while giving up an iffy Petr Mrazek contract, alongside giving a veteran a chance at playoffs in moving Smith.
A solid move for Kyle Davidson and the Blackhawks.
