Chicago Blackhawks recall 6 foot 8 230lb enforcer to protect Connor Bedard amidst injury
The Chicago Blackhawks have had to placeSeth Jones on the injured reserve, due to an injury suffered against the Seattle Kraken.
Jones sustained the injury against Seattle on a blocked shot but remained in the game, adds Ben Pope of the Chicago Sun-Times, who adds more information will be known when they return home from their road trip on Sunday.
There's speculation that the injury happened when he blocked a shot by Andre Burakovsky with his foot. But nothing is confirmed at this point.
The Blackhawks will have a void to fill in the lineup, as they will have to look elsewhere for talent.
Jones has massive shoes to fill, as he played around 25:43 TOI nightly, and has been a key piece in the lineup. With his absence, the Hawks look to Rockford for a solution.
That solution will beLouis Crevier who is a bruising, towering defenseman who was a regular call-up during the bad times for the Hawks last season.
In 2023-2024 Crevier saw significant usage in the NHL, playing 24 games and posting 3 assists.
This season has only seen him play 11 games with the IceHogs, posting 1 point, and will get another look in the bigs again this season.
The right-shot defenseman is a tank at 6'8" and 228 pounds, he provided the blueline with plenty of physicality adding 30 hits in 24 games, which is just over a hit per game.
He's not afraid of throwing his body around,, and will give the Blackhawks some size in the lineup that Jones provided.
While it would seem like an ideal time to call up Kevin Korchsinki or Artyom Levshunov, the Hawks have opted to let them continue to develop in the AHL.
Crevier, 23, has appeared in 11 games with Rockford this season, posting one assist. During the 2023-24 campaign, Crevier skated in 24 games with the Blackhawks, recording three assists. He also dressed in 41 regular-season games with the IceHogs last season, recording 11 points (3G, 8A). Additionally, Crevier competed in four Calder Cup Playoff games with the IceHogs in 2023-24.
Crevier was drafted 188th overall in the 7th round of the 2020 NHL Draft by the Blackhawks.
The towering defenseman made his NHL debut on December 8th, 2023 against the Anaheim Ducks.
