Chicago Blackhawks forward informs organization that he will not sign an extension and test free agency
The Blackhawks' last three years have probably been the worst in franchise history. Finishing last in 2023, 30th in 2024, and now second-to-last in 2025. However, fortunately for the Blackhawks, there's been one upside, and that's drafting.
Dominic James, someone fans were excited to see and a promising prospect, has refused a contract with the organization despite a 'generous offer' from general manager Kyle Davidson.
James, a former 6th round pick in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, is 22 years old. James had 18 points in 39 games in his freshman year at Minnesota-Duluth University of the NCAA.
Dominic then sparked in his sophomore campaign, with his point totals going up by ten when he put up 28 points in 35 games.
This past season with
Minnesota-Duluth, he had 14 goals and 16 assists, tallying up to 30 points in 35 games, he has shown lots of promise for being a 6th round pick, and many claimed him to be a steal and a diamond in the rough type of pick.
Kyle Davidson said that he thinks he gave James a hell of an offer in the post-season interviews on Thursday, but he didn't want to sign it.
Maybe it's because he was going to Rockford and he wanted an instant chance, who knows.
Either way, whether you like it or not, it's a loss for the Hawks, because after putting up a 30-point season in college, he'll sign somewhere else, and he could make the Blackhawks pay when facing them in his NHL debut this upcoming season.
