The fate of Blackhawks' captain Nick Foligno in Chicago was just confirmed in a new report.

The 37-year-old veteran is set to enter the final year of his contract during the 2025-26 season, and while there's no extension in place, there's no urgency to move on from the respected leader either.
In 78 games this past season, Foligno scored 15 goals and 20 assists for 35 points while playing a physical style.
His value clearly goes beyond his offensive production.

Foligno: A Great Leader For The Hawks' Young Core

The Blackhawks' front office is likely aware that keeping veterans like Foligno around helps create the right culture for their emerging stars.
As he enters what could be his final season in Chicago, his leadership will be just as important as his on-ice performance.
There's no official word yet on whether the team will extend him before the season ends. But if Foligno remains open to continuing his career and the fit still makes sense, a short-term deal could be discussed down the line. For now, all signs point to him playing out his final year without distraction.
As the 2025-26 season approaches, the focus will be on whether the team can take the next step. Foligno's experience, grit, and work ethic will be key components in making that happen.
After the season, it wouldn't be surprising to see him remain in the NHL on a yearly contract basis, as most players near retirement do.
But if he decides to retire, it would mark the end of an era in Chicago and the NHL.
In his career, he tallied 597 points over 1233 NHL regular season games, while adding 27 points in 68 playoff games.
Stay tuned.
