Ken Holland's time with Oilers coming to an end: a major turn of events

It appears that Ken Holland's time in Edmonton is coming to an end, with reports of him not attending the NHL draft that is just right around the corner on June 28th.

Holland joined the Edmonton Oilers on a 5-year deal in 2019 and his five year deal is expiring in less than a week.

During the past season, there were reports that both sides will be heading in different directions ahead of the 2024-25 season, and that appears to be the case according to former NHLer, Scottie Upshall.

«Source telling me that Ken Holland could be on his way to the Chicago Blackhawks,» Upshall wrote on X. «Position to be determined. Could this be the beginning of building [a] new dynasty there in Chi town?!? They have the cap space and the draft picks! We will see how this plays out.»

Upshall's report follows TSN Darren Dreger, who revealed that Ken Holland won't be representing the Edmonton Oilers at this weeks draft.

«His situation will be clarified within a few days. As of right now indications are that he will not be at the Draft in Vegas.»
Dreger stated.

Holland led the Oilers throughout a rebuild to the Connor McDavid era, as well as a Western Conference final appearance in 2022 and a Stanley Cup final showing which sadly ended just two days ago.

Reports indicate that Holland wouldn't take over Kyle Davidson's role as general manager, but could lead to the firing of the Blackhawks' Hockey Operations position, or an in-office role.
