The Chicago Blackhawks' future just got a whole lot brighter following this year's 2025 NHL Trade Deadline, just under two months ago, and a young net-minder has revealed his true feelings towards his newest teammate.
GM Kyle Davidson made a sick deal this past trade deadline by trading veteran blue liner, Seth Jones, for a first-round pick and a top net-minder, Spencer Knight, who appears to now be the future starter for the Blackhawks.
Chicago has undoubtedly struggled finding a top goaltender since Corey Crawford was in his prime, however, the team knew this would to change in order for the Blackhawks' current re-build to flourish, and luckily for the organization, it is looking like the team found their missing piece.
While Spencer Knight was immaculate to watch in his short time within the Blackhawks' season, there is no doubt that he will be the front runner in the organization to control the net for the long haul, and despite Chicago having other top goaltending prospects in their pipeline, the trade didn't change the mindset of their current starter in the AHL.
For the longest time the Rockford IceHogs' netminder, Drew Commesso, was set to become the primary goaltender of the future, however it appears those plans have changed, yet Commesso remains focused on the progress and has nothing but great things to say about Knight.
Commesso reiterated that he will continue to keep his great mindset of being present regardless of Chicago's decision:
«Honestly, I don't adjust my mentality at all,» Commesso said. «It was something that was completely out of my control and I think I found out about it 15 minutes before my first game back from injury in the locker room. For me, I've just had a great mindset of just being present and controlling what I can.»
He then continued to reveal that himself and Knight have a strong relationship based on their roots together:
«Spence and I have a phenomenal relationship,» Commesso said. «He's been such a great guy to me ever since I met him at the U.S. program when we were there together and I only have unbelievable things to say about him. I think we are really similar in a lot of ways and we view the game very similarly.»
