Acquisition: Pending free agent Nikolaj Ehlers has just made a substantial free agency decision

Many analysts are revealing insight on the Chicago Blackhawks being interested in acquiring Mitch Marner to play alongside Connor Bedard, but there is another top line forward who general manager Kyle Davidson wants instead.
For many obvious reasons, including his career-high year this past season with the Toronto Maple Leafs where he totalled 102 points, Marner is the main attraction of this offseason.
And it appears to have hid other free agents in the shadow, including one name who may end up producing more than Marner.
Longtime Winnipeg Jets forward and pending free agent Ehlers' contract is set to expire on July 1st and he is expected to earn himself a big pay day.
A big enough pay day that the Winnipeg Jets may not be able to handle, and according to TSN's Chris Johnston, that's where the Chicago Blackhawks are coming into play.
Nikolaj Ehlers hitting the open market come July 1st free agency
It was all but confirmed, until Johnston just revealed that he will indeed be hitting the open market.

With talks picking up regarding Mitch Marner to the Blackhawks, and now Nikolaj Ehlers emerging as an ideal fit for the young filled roster, GM Kyle Davidson will have to make a crucial decision in the coming weeks on what direction the team will head when free agency kicks off on July 1st.
