The Chicago Blackhawks need to offload Seth Jones'massive $9.5 million salary cap hit and could find a home with the Blue Jackets, Canucks, or Senators.
The Chicago Blackhawks and Seth Jones have come to an impasse, as it's arguable that he isn't performing up to his contract value, which pays him $9.5 million AAV.
The Blackhawks need the extra cap space to add more talent and fill out the roster during the summer. Jones should be one of the veterans the team parts ways with.
The issue with Jones is GM Stan Bowman gave him a full no-movement clause, including his rich contract. This could be an obstacle, but given how well GM Kyle Davidson works with talent, this shouldn't be an issue.
Where could the Blackhawks send Seth Jones at the trade deadline?
The Blue Jackets are holding onto a wild card spot in the playoffs and could utilize some veteran talent on the blue line.
The team could fit his cap space underneath the team's surplus at the moment and could give him a spot back in the top-pairing, with former teammate Zach Werenski.
Jones was still in his prime when he played for the Blue Jackets, scoring 223 points during his tenure there.
Since the two teams have already been trading partners, it'd make sense for Davidson to pick up a phone and call GM Don Waddell.
The Canucks could find a top defenseman in Seth Jones, while their top four is stunningly mediocre. Jones could be used to fill the missing depth in the lineup and be a part of a potential trade that could land the Blackhawks JT Miller or
Elias Pettersson.
Just like with Werenski, Jones fits the need of a superstar right-handed defenseman. If he were paired with Hughes, Jones could potentially see a massive boost in his offensive numbers. A trade between the two teams could benefit both in the long run.
It would give the Blackhawks a potential linemate for
Connor Bedard, with a Pettersson or Miller return.
The Senators could use Seth Jones in order to stay in the hunt for a wild card spot in the Atlantic Division. Jones would be able to expand their depth on the right side as
Artem Zub, isn't quite the player we expected him to be.
Jones would add toughness, and offensive upside which the Senators need as they're competing with the Bruins for a wild card spot in the Atlantic Division.
The Senators would have to part ways with a top-six forward in order to make the deal work, and the Blackhawks could inquire about the availability of
Josh Norris to ensure the trade works for both teams.
Norris would fill out the first line, and give Bedard a true linemate who is just as skilled as he is.
