28-year old forward unexpectedly announces his retirement from the NHL

28-year old NHL forward Christian Fischer has suddenly announced his retirement through an interview with Max Bultman of The Athletic.
The young forward entered free agency on July 1st, after finishing a season split between the Detroit Red Wings and Columbus Blue Jackets.
Coming off a $1.125M contract, he's quite thankful for the career has has spent in the hockey scene and now plans to move on to bigger things.
"Over the last couple years, I think I just look at my life and what makes me happy, and being around family and kind of my life in Scottsdale in the end, I'm very thankful for the career I had, but just personally I think I know it's time for a new chapter in my life."
It's a surprise decision from Fischer at such a young age, and for someone who has shown impact in an NHL lineup throughout the many years of his NHL career.
"If you told me that when I was 10 years old, 'you're going to play 500 games in the NHL,' I would be the happiest kid you've ever seen.»
A former 32nd overall pick by the Coyotes in the 2015 NHL draft, he quickly became a hot topic of the hockey world when he tallied up 40 goals and 90 points in just 66 OHL (Ontario Hockey League) games before being selected by Arizona.
"Just very, very thankful. I think that's the biggest thing is just thanking all the people that have been involved, all the way from media to trainers to coaches, players, family, friends, everybody. I'm so, so grateful to have experienced this with so many people. I guess that's my biggest wish, is that I got to make a lot of people happy and smile, and when they got to see me skate on the ice, I hope I made them proud."
