BREAKING: Over 100 players suspended following retaliation from league
There have been significant changes in multiple Canadian junior hockey leagues this year.
Five teams have decided to leave the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) and join the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) during the 2024-2025 season.
The five teams that have left the AJHL are the Brooks Bandits, Spruce Grove Saints, Okotoks Oilers, Sherwood Park Crusaders, and Blackfalds Bulldogs.
This decision has resulted in massive consequences, with the AJHL suspending the five teams, totaling 100 players, and issuing a statement afterward.
As a result of the departure of these five teams, the BCHL now has an Alberta region in the league.
The future of the AJHL is uncertain due to the mass exits, and the suspensions don't help them either.
The move could be construed as disrespectful by the five teams who chose to leave for the BCHL, however, the hockey community will continue to monitor the consequences and resulting fallout afterward.
