BY JARED    JANUARY 23, 2023  (3:56 PM)
Brent Sopel wasn't the flashiest or most skilled player on the ice, but he was able to shape out a nice career. Sopel won the Stanley Cup with Chicago in the 2009-2010 season in his last year with the Blackhawks.

Sopel has battled his demons with addiction and has turned a new leaf in his life after hockey. Sopel is now sober and using his new lease on life to help the young hockey community through a new mental health initiative called the "Why Program".

Sopel said in an interview with WGN saying that he feels like a kid again. He is on the ice with the Wolfpack Hockey Club in Hoffman Estates 4 days a week trying to teach the young players about being mentally strong, mental health awareness, and to boost their self-esteem.

It seems that Sopel has his life back on track and has found his passion after ending his professional career. Sopel's new program is going to benefit hundreds of young players feel comfortable learning the exciting game of hockey.
