NHL Insider David Pagnotta has dropped some juicy details on the Buffalo Sabres haven't been able to trade defenseman Bowen Byram, and his price tag may be too high.
But for defenseman
Bowen Byram, it seems that they may have a little bit more trouble than usual moving the former Stanley Cup champion.
According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, an issue that may be stopping deals from happening is the high sticker price for Byram himself.
TFP reported that Byram is looking for a long-term deal that pays him upwards of $9 million.
Quite high for a Stanley Cup champion whose career-high has been 38 points in 82 games played with the Sabres.
While we doubt this is his true value, a deal like this pays for his eventual upside should an NHL team find a way to tap into it.
Though Byram has one cup to his name, he's been riddled with a history that's plagued with concussions and would pose a risk to the team that acquires him for that price.
It seems that NHL teams would be interested in giving him an offer sheet at $7 million AAV, but we're unsure whether or not he'd sign.
Either way, GM Kevyn Adams would match.
It seems like a herculean task to acquire a defenseman like Byram, who has had a history riddled with injuries, along with a team that covets his talents.
