Team USA Receives Gold Medal- Game Changing News That Gives Canada A Major Advantage
Team USA will be lacking a superstar in their lineup against Canada this week, as Charlie McAvoy will be out due to injury.
In troubling news for Team USA, top-four defenseman
Charlie McAvoy will be out of the lineup due to an upper-body injury.
Today instead of slotting in against Sweden, he was sat for defenseman
Jake Sanderson instead.
And it all makes sense after the announcement made today by NHL Insider Ty Anderson.
Team USA depended on McAvoy's talents to contribute to the 3-1 win over Canada on February 15th.
The two juggernauts faced off in what seemed like an existential contest of wills on the ice that night.
McAvoy wouldn't contribute offensively but would become a shutdown defenseman whose contribution was recognized by Captain
Auston Matthews.
"He's such a big factor for us on the back end with the way he plays, his physicality and everything," United States captain Auston Matthews said of McAvoy
Now, with him out of the lineup, Team USA will have less muscle on the ice, and
Connor McDavid and
Sidney Crosby will have more space to work with thanks to his absence.
It's difficult to tell whether or not he was injured during the team's win over Canada, but he did lay some heavy hits.
McAvoy will remain out of the lineup for Team USA and will join
Matthew Tkachuk on the bench.
Tough breaks for Mike Sullivan as they face Canada for the Championship on the 20th.
In 50 games for the Bruins, he's scored 23 points (7 G, 16 A) and will have to be benched during the most important tournament of the year.
