Recently, the NHL has seen some big contracts. First it was Connor McDavid and his $12,500,000 AAV contract making history for the biggest contract in hockey history. Then it was Nathan MacKinnon and his $12,600,000 contract, topping McDavid by $100,000 and setting a new record.
Right now, you have Austin Matthews, a 25 year old superstar needing a contract. Potentially topping MacKinnon, getting north of $13 million per season.
If Bedard lives up to all his expectations where scouts state he is going to surpass McDavid's skill level, he could get a record-breaking contract, North of $14,500,000; it all depends on Matthews' contract and how things change in the league.
Kyle Davidson has already began planning for this, though. Davidson is making sure with all the prospects coming in, he has the appropriate amount to pay them. He's doing this by not signing long term contracts and staying away from big contracts in general.
