San Jose Sharks defenseman and former first round pick Ryan Merkley has reportedly requested a trade. Merkley has played in 39 NHL games in his NHL career and still has waiver eligibility.
Merkley has struggled to find footing in the NHL, which is why his agent says a change of scenery will benefit both parties. He played 39 games last season for the Sharks, putting up 5 points in those games.
Merkley has spent the entirety of this season in the AHL up to this point, tallying 14 points in 30 games for the Barracudas. While Merkley has struggled, he is still only 22 years old and could intrigue many teams around the league to take a chance on him.
