The hockey world is once again in mourning after the tragic passing of Utah Mammoth chief communications officer Caroline Klein at only 40 years of age.

The NHL extended family has suffered an untimely loss, as the Utah Mammoth have confirmed the tragic passing of chief communications officer Caroline Klein due to complications from cancer at just 40 years old.
Ryan Smith, the Chairman and CEO of the Smith Entertainment Group, which owns the Mammoth as well as the NBA's Utah Jazz, released a statement mourning the loss of Klein, whom he referred to as a "legend".
Utah lost a legend yesterday in the passing of Caroline Klein. She was truly one of a kind, [Ashley, my wife] and I and the rest of the SEG team will miss her every single day.
The NHL also acknowledged her passing with a statement of remembrance and sympathy to her family she leaves behind, which includes husband Mike Gartland.
The National Hockey League family is deeply saddened by the passing of our friend and colleague, Caroline Klein. Caroline's effervescence and her tireless work to establish the Utah franchise were marvels in themselves, but all the more remarkable given the valiant fight she was waging with cancer.

Our time working together, like Caroline's life, was too short. But we and everyone fortunate enough to have met her are endlessly richer for the experience. We send our condolences to her family, the Utah Mammoth and Jazz organizations and her many friends throughout the sports world.

Caroline Klein was a rising star in the sports world

Klein, who had a major part in helping get the Utah Mammoth (previously known as the Utah Hockey Club) off the ground in 2024, also helped develop the streaming platform SEG+ for both the Mammoth and the Jazz.
Additionally, she had been recognized by being included in the Sports Business Journal's "40 under 40" list for 2024.
