1400 game veteran set to partake in final NHL season before retirement
Per NHL analyst Mayor's Manor on X, Los Angeles Kings captain Anze Kopitar is about to play his last year in the NHL and won't sign another extension.
It could soon be the official end of a lengthy era for the Los Angeles Kings that yielded a pair of Stanley Cups.
Longtime Kings forward Anze Kopitar, who took over from fellow Stanley Cup winner Dustin Brown as captain, is reportedly going to play his final year in the NHL and won't sign an extension.
Per @mayorNHL
Don't expect #GoKingsGo F Anze Kopitar to sign an extension of any sort. In the final year of his 2-year x $7M deal. Will be 38 years old
If this is it for Kopitar; had one hell of a career:
- 1278 points in 1454 games
- 2x Cup Champ
- 2x Selke winner
- 3x Lady Bing winner
- 1x Mark Messier winner
Kopitar was taken 11th overall by the Kings in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, and would eventually become known as one of the best 2-way forwards in the League.
He was instrumental in helping the Kings win the Stanley Cup in 2012 and 2014, which also included another WCF appearance in 2013.
Anze Kopitar helped eliminate the Blackhawks in the 2014 WCF
Kopitar was one of the Kings' best forwards in both postseason series against the Blackhawks in 2013 and 2014, the 2nd of which resulted in the Kings winning in 7 games.
He has 1278 points (440G, 838A) in his NHL career,
all with Los Angeles, and will have his sweater No. 11 retired by the club when he does retire.
