The Columbus Blue Jackets held a Candlelight Vigil for Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau at 7:30 PM on Wednesday. Players would converge for an emotional press conference while the vigil took place.
They spoke emotionally and gave a beautiful tribute to both Johnny and Matthew, who tragically passed away on August 29th last week, as 43-year-old Sean Higgins robbed them of their lives.
The drunk driver drove belligerently, trying to overtake another car North on County Route 551. He struck both Johnny and Matthew riding the bicycles on the shoulders of the road. Johnny and Matthew were pronounced dead on the scene.
Police would report that Higgins was under the influence of alcohol and charged with two counts of vehicular homicide.
Gudbranson would ask those under the influence of alcohol, to find another way home if they couldn't drive.
Afterward, they would hold 13 minutes and 21 seconds of silence for both brothers, as 13 & 21 were the last numbers they wore on ice.
