Three under the radar free agents the Blackhawks could snag on the open market
There are some big fish to fry in this free agency, such as Brock Boeser, Mitch Marner, and Nick Ehlers. However, there are some smaller contracts the Chicago Blackhawks can hand out as well, and there's three players they should offer it to.
The first one is
Joel Kiviranta. The 29-year-old tallied 16 goals and seven assists for 23 points in 79 games last season with the Colorado Avalanche.
Kiviranta, a winger, is a solid bottom-six guy but also had his chances in the top-six when injuries struck the Avalanche, and looked like he belonged. Kiviranta is only making $775,000 on his current contract, so the Hawks might be able to get him on a cheap deal for a couple years. He could be a good nitty gritty piece to the bottom-six when all of the Blackhawks prospects come in.
The second is Puis Suter. Suter, a former Hawk, had a career year on the Vancouver Canucks this past season. Suter took over as the first line center in Vancouver after
J.T. Miller was traded to the New York Rangers and
Elias Pettersson went down with an injury. He played really well.
Suter, coming off a 25-goal, 46-point season in 81 games, has a contract hit of $1.6 million. After this season it will surely go up a bit, but will still be affordable for Chicago.
Last but not least,
Luke Kunin. Kunin is 27 years old, the youngest of the bunch, is not going to be the one to tally too many points. However, Kunin is the grittiest of the bunch, and promotes a solid game.
Kunin only had 18 points in 75 games, but still played a big role in Columbus. Kunin is making $2.75 million this year, which is a lot. The Blackhawks can bring that down, though.
Hopefully, the Blackhawks can get at least one of them, because they'll add some good depth to the squad.
