A major development in the Chicago Blackhawks acquiring actual NHL-star studded talent
A major development suggests the Chicago Blackhawks could acquire an actual NHL star this summer on the trade market or next year in free agency.
The Chicago Blackhawks may have many future
star players in their prospect pool, but if the organization wants to avoid spending another season at the bottom of the Central Division, the team will need to be active this summer.
Both the trade market and free agency offer interesting options for Hawks general manager Kyle Davidson, and with the salary cap significantly going up in the next few years, the team could be in a position to add a star player.
Indeed, according to a new report, the Hawks could be interested in getting
Jack Eichel from the Vegas Golden Knights:
"Perhaps they'll now consider taking a run at Eichel in an effort to both placate their 19-year-old star and add legitimate prime-years talent into the top six. Eichel would be a prized trinket for whoever is hired as the team's new full-time coach, and he'd also fit nicely into its salary structure as the league's cap annually expands to $95.5 million, $104 million and $113.5 million through 2028."
Eichel has one season left on his $10M AAV contract signed with the Buffalo Sabres back in 2018, and the Golden Knights could trade him if they think they won't be able to re-sign him, even if the GM Kelly McCrimmon announced it was a piority for the team:
"The guy is a tremendous player. He's one of the top guys in the NHL. He's got great character and great leadership. You see night in and night out what he does for our team. So that will be a really important piece of business for us. I sure hope to keep Jack in our organization. Jack loves it here. I hope we can find common ground and keep him a Golden Knight."
The Blackhawks will look to add key veterans to their lineup in the offseason, and there's no doubt that Eichel will be on their radar if he ends up being available.
Many more organizations will be interested in him, so they'll need to act fast to lock him down if they truly want him.
Eichel, 28, scored 94 points in 77 games this season, and 10 points in 11 playoff games.
Stay tuned for details about Eichel's final contract year and the Hawks' goal to add depth to their lineup.
