The Chicago Blackhawks and Anders Sorensen have demoted veteran goalie Petr Mrazek, this season. Who will be the new starter in Chicago? Soderblom
The Chicago Blackhawks have made the inevitable decision of demoting
Petr Mrazek, as after his return from injury he hasn't been able to be the netminder the Blackhawks have needed.
Today, against the New York Rangers the team has elevated
Arvid Soderblom, the Swedish goalie we once thought to be down and out after a dismal performance last season.
Now, this year he has played 17 games for the Hawks, with a 6-9-1 record, with a 2.73 GAA, and a .910 save percentage.
Petr Mrazek was placed on injured reserve by the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday after he sustained a groin injury in the first period of a 4-2 loss to the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday.
After Mrazek made his fourth save of the game, play was stopped and he went to the Blackhawks locker room at 10:46 of the first period.
«I think the prognosis is 1-2 weeks, but we're definitely hoping for one week,» interim coach Anders Sorensen said Sunday.
Mrazek recently returned from his nagging groin injury which was aggravated 3 weeks ago. He was placed on IR on December 9th for the Blackhawks and would only return to the ice
The veteran Blackhawks goalie who was known for his resilience in the net, has now fallen from grace.
This season Mrazek has started 24 games for the Blackhawks, and has a record of 7-14-1, with a 3.23 GAA, and an .893 save percentage.
Could it be age, or workload showing for the goalie? Or a factor of injuries on injuries wearing down his body?
Either way, the Blackhawks have made a decision, and they're riding the hot-hand.
