Despite that win, it didn't come without a low point for the Flyers as Garnet Hathaway elbowed Minnesota Wild Center Joel Erikkson Ek. The move was a dirty play, and would be considered cheap by teammate, and former linemate Marcus Foligno.
Hathaway would receive supplemental discipline from George Parros and the Department of Player Safety.
Erikkson Ek would be elbowed during the 2nd period of the match and received a two-minute minor. The Flyers would have to kill off the penalty thanks to Hathaway's recklessness.
In a familiar stretch of words from the Department of Player Safety, Joel Eriksson Ek.- NHL Player Safety (@NHLPlayerSafety) October 27, 2024 ' class='lien_marqueur' target='_blank' rel='noopener'>Garnet Hathaway was fined the "CBA Maximum" which is $5000.
Foligno would call out Hathaway, as he said the cheap shots are what the bottom-six forward, oft considered a goon has to stay relevant in the NHL.
Considering Hathway hasn't seen any meaningful play since his time in Boston, it's hard to disagree there.
Foligno's anger is understandable, as he wants to see his teammates safe on ice. Also, for the fact that Joel Erikkson-Ek recently returned from surgery on his nose, it's a definite cheap shot from Hathaway, is could definitely be thought of as targeting on one of the Wild's best players.
