The Chicago Blackhawks have help on the way according to GM Kyle Davidson, yet their record is 15-29-5, and bottom-dwellers once again.
The Chicago Blackhawks are once again in the play for a lottery pick if they continue the current trajectory they're on.
They're 8th In the Central Division, with a record of 15-29-5 and improving offensively. But is it enough to move up in the rankings? Unlikely.
What is GM Kyle Davidson advocating all the while? Patience. It's a term we've had to use lately in order to stay informed on the ongoing rebuild while the team continues to struggle.
The Blackhawks are 3-10-3 in their last sixteen games. Kyle's response seemed dismissive:
«This takes time. We knew it would take time,» Davidson said Monday. «There's nothing that's gone on in our prospect group or the development of our young players that's causing me concern. ... We are in the process of a rebuild here, and it's going to be on the backs of our young players and prospects.»
Yet here we are, with new Interim Coach Anders Sorensen, due to the team's underperformance at the beginning of the season.
Sorensen currently has a record of 7-12-3 and if he cannot put his team on the right path for the remainder of the season, we could see him lose his job.
Is it
Connor Bedard who Kyle Davidson is placing his hope on? Bedard started the 2024 season in a slump but has since picked up the pace scoring 43 points (13 G, 30 A).
But it could be a flaw to expect Bedard to be the lone solution who could help the Hawks alone, as the team lacks depth throughout the lineup.
It's true Bedard has grown offensively and shows some creativity in his game, but Davidson might be mistaken in believing the Blackhawks could rely solely on Bedard to drive the offense.
Oftentimes,
Ryan Donato or Bertuzzi can offer help, but it hasn't been enough to secure victories.
While the prospects aren't fully developed, is help truly on the way?
Instead, he looks to March 7th to find more help. As it stands now the team he's built has trouble thought it's core, as you can find fault everywhere.
Could the trade deadline be where they add help next since he said they're no longer in an asset accumulation stage?
«We've got a lot of assets,» he said. «We're not necessarily in that asset-build stage like we were a little while ago. And so we've got the luxury of being patient and just seeing what comes our way.»
The Blackhawks are at a pivotal moment in their rebuild, and a mistake could set the team back further.
