Connor Bedard reveals the truth on current contract negotiations with Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson
The latest update on the contract negotiations between former 2023 1st overall pick Connor Bedard and the Chicago Blackhawks is out from Bedard himself.
The Blackhawks won the 2023 NHL Draft Lottery in controversial fashion and used the 1st overall pick to select Connor Bedard, who has now played 2 full years in the NHL and is about to enter his 3rd.
Bedard has yet to play in a single game in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, as the Blackhawks have finished near or at the bottom of the standings in each of his 1st pair of seasons.
It's nothing crazy. We're both comfortable with where we're at. They know I want to be there; I know they want me. So, it's really not on my mind that much, and I just think when it happens, it'll happen.
Last year, Bedard had 67 points (23G, 44A).
The Blackhawks still aren't projected as a playoff team this year
Despite coming into the year with the goaltending tandem of
Spencer Knight and
Arvid Soderblom, along with the acquisition of former Stanley Cup winner Andrei Burakovsky as well as the hiring of new coach Jeff Blashill, most projections don't have the Blackhawks coming anywhere close to a playoff spot this year.
Bedard spoke openly last year about his frustration with losing, but he's also been open about loving life in Chicago and wanting to spend his entire career with the Blackhawks.
As the face of the franchise, it shouldn't be too difficult for a deal to be hammered out before too long.
