Minnesota Wild franchise forward Kirill Kaprizov has reportedly turned down $128 million in their latest contract offer from the team - does this mean that the Blackhawks could have a chance?
It looks like the Minnesota Wild could be in real danger of losing the best player in their franchise history, as reports have emerged indicating that Kirill Kaprizov has turned down a mega-contract offer.
The report indicated that Kaprizov rejected a $128 million offer from Wild GM Bill Guerin, which would have made him the highest paid player in NHL history per analyst Frank Seravalli.
Sources say #mnwild superstar Kirill Kaprizov's camp turned down an extension offer believed to be 8-years, $128 million in a meeting on Tuesday in Minnesota that would have made him the highest-paid player in #NHL history in both AAV ($16 million) and total dollars.
Does this mean the Blackhawks have a chance at Kaprizov?
The Blackhawks have nearly $19 million of cap space, a big portion of which will be going
toward a new contract for
Connor Bedard, the 1st overall pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.
If the Blackhawks managed to lure Kaprizov to the Windy City, it would be their 1st true superstar player since the days of
Patrick Kane and
Jonathan Toews during Chicago's glory days.
It would also immediately level them up to a postseason contender, and with a few extra pieces, could even eventually get them back into Stanley Cup contention.
Either way, if Kaprizov doesn't return to the Wild, it would be perhaps the worst blow in the franchise's history at not being able to retain a true star player.
