It could be another tough year in store for the Chicago Blackhawks, but per 2023 1st overall pick Connor Bedard, it won't be because they aren't fast enough.

The Chicago Blackhawks have started training camp for the upcoming year, and while it's not expected to be a return to the postseason for the young team, they don't think it'll be because their opposition is faster.
Per 2023 1st overall pick Connor Bedard, who is coming into his 3rd year in the NHL, he and his teammates can "really fly" and they're going to "hound" teams.
»We can fly. We've got some of the fastest guys in the league... You've got to play to your strengths, and probably our biggest strength is our skating. We're young, we're energetic and we're going to hound teams.»

-Connor Bedard

His skills were all over the ice at the team practice rink for the 1st day of training camp, which included a highlight reel goal:
It's going to be a critical rebuilding year for Chicago, who are tired of being in the Western Conference's basement after over a decade of dominance and 3 Stanley Cups.

Connor Bedard talks about his contract

Speaking of Bedard, it's gonna be the contract year for him in the upcoming season.
Bedard is the face of the franchise, and they're going to do whatever it takes to make sure he stays in the Windy City long term.
As far as his negotiation process is going, Bedard said that things are going "pretty chill".
I've said it a bunch, it hasn't been [like] a ruthless anything. It's just like a couple chats. It's all pretty chill. We have a good relationship. It's not something that keeps me up at night or ever really think of, to be honest.

Last year, Bedard had 67 points (23G, 44A) in all 82 games.
