Connor Bedard opened up about his love for the city of Chicago in a new interview, giving another insight into his desire to sign an extension with the Blackhawks.
The financial landscape in the NHL is changing.
With the salary cap set to rise significantly in the coming years, we're seeing more and more players signing at very high numbers.
Kirill Kaprizov signed at $17M, Luke Hughes and Jackson LaCombe at $9M, which is a lot for young defensemen, and many others will follow.
These deals set the table for even bigger contracts across the League.
In Chicago, Kyle Davidson did a great job by extending Frank Nazar and Spencer Knight to cap-friendly deals, but now, the biggest contract in Chicago Blackhawks history could be signed by Connor Bedard.
The young forward opened up about his love for the city of Chicago in a recent interview, reinforcing the idea of an imminent long-term extension with the Blackhawks.
Connor Bedard Talks About His Love For Chicago In New Interview
Chicago is one of the greatest sports cities in North America. Many legends have played there in all sports for teams like the Bears in the NFL, the Cubs and the White Sox in the MLB, the Bulls in the NBA, and of course, the Blackhawks in the NHL.
Here's what Bedard had to say about Chicago, which basically silenced the rumors of his potential departure from the organization:
"Those guys were our age at one point and the worst team in the League for a while. So, they were looking at, whatever, Pittsburgh, Chicago, the teams that were good at the time, and trying to reach that, and eventually they did. Everyone starts in that spot, and I'm pretty confident that we're going to get there."
It'll be interesting to see if Bedard also gets inspired by Sidney Crosby and Connor McDavid by leaving money on the table to help his team build a Stanley Cup-contending roster.
