Brent Sopel, a former Chicago Blackhawk, entered the league with the Vancouver Canucks (1998-99), but would be traded to the New York Islanders on August 3rd, 2005, and the rest is history.

Brent Sopel would end up playing in Chicago and winning a Stanley Cup, but that would come later in 2010.
He was one of the key players during the 2010s Blackhawks dynasty that won three Stanley Cups. He wouldn't arrive in the Blackhawks organization until June of 2010.
Sopel originally began his career during the 1998-99 season and was originally told by Marc Crawford, he'd never make it to the NHL. Nearly 2 years after signing his contract on April 3, 1996, he found himself playing on NHL ice. The defenseman was drafted 144th overall in the 1995 NHL draft.
Later on, he stuck with the Canucks until they could ship him out for value, with the asset return being a condition 2nd-round pick (#38), which would become Bryce Swan.
Sopel would slug it out in New York, playing 57 games as an Islander, would later be traded to the Kings, and back to the Canucks during the 2006 and 2007 seasons. You know how busy free agency is?

Brent Sopel: A True Journeyman

But for Sopel, he truly wouldn't find a home in the NHL even after winning a Stanley Cup with the Blackhawks in 2010.
The Blackhawks would send him, Akim Aliu, Dustin Byfuglien, and Ben Eager for Joey Crabb, Jeremy Morin, Marty Reasoner, and two 2010 Draft picks.
Near the end of his career in 2011, he'd find himself wearing a Habs jersey and would later travel to the KHL to finish his professional hockey career.
The former 6th-round pick played 659 games in the NHL and scored 218 points during his 12-year career.
