Blackhawks goaltender Arvid Soderblom is one of many NHL players to take their team to salary arbitration in hopes of getting a new deal.
Multiple NHL players have filed for salary arbitration, including one important member of the Chicago Blackhawks.
Goaltender Arvid Soderblom has filed for salary arbitration, which means he's no longer eligible to receive an offer sheet from another NHL team. However, he can still try and work out a deal with Chicago before his hearing date.
Soderblom figures to compete for the starting job with Chicago against Spencer Knight, who was acquired from the Florida Panthers in a March trade.
Petr Mrazek, with whom he had split playing time over the last 2 years, was traded to the former divisional foe Detroit Red Wings.
Arvid Soderblom figures to form a solid tandem with Spencer Knight
In March, Soderblom discussed the tandem that he's part of with Knight and how they'll push one another.
You need two good guys to help with the workload, especially here where we have the type of games we have. A lot of times, [we're] up against 40 shots a night. Obviously, you always want to be the guy that plays the [majority of the] games. And he's a competitor, as well, so we always want to play. But we also support each other.
This year, he went 10-18-7 with a 3.18 GAA and a .898 SV%. He has a 17-52-11 overall record in the NHL with a 3.55 GAA and a .889 SV%, though the Blackhawks teams that he's played on have been severely lacking in talent.
With new head coach Jeff Blashill behind the bench, Chicago is hoping that their fortunes will begin to shift for the better.
