Blackhawks Organization Will Undergo Rebrand With New Team Name And Logo For The AHL On Saturday

The Chicago Blackhawks organization will be paying homage to the "Mighty Oaks" on April 5th, as the team's affiliate battles with the Grand Rapids Griffins.
The Chicago Blackhawks organization will change up the look of their uniforms on April 5th.
As they honor a name for what could've been for the IceHogs in the AHL, the "Mighty Oaks".
If you're curious about the name, it pays tribute to the city of Rockford itself, as it is aptly named "The Forest City".
On April 5th, the team will rebrand to honor the nature surrounding the area and will have a crest with a reimagined mascot, an acorn with a beard.
It gives the team a unique look, as they have the barbershop-style look as the stripes are featured on the entire jersey, to give it a classic look.
The jerseys will highlight the team's primary red, black and white color scheme and will feature a «character» named «Mighty Oak»' on the crest. The secondary logo ties together the theme of «The Forest City» with a rendition of a mighty oak tree supported by hockey sticks at the tree's base.
The Mighty Oak nickname itself calls back to the founding of Rockford and the Oakley family that settled on the Rock River, at this point in 1835 the village was known as "Midway'.
What was prominent about the house on the West Bank was the Oak Tree which subsumed the dwelling, and gave passersby a reason to gaze at the size of the oak tree, a tree known for wisdom in some cultures.
While the whole neighborhood was full of foliage, it was the Oakley's oak tree that, both literally and figuratively, stood above them all.
By 1837, the village of Midway was renamed Rockford and the Oakley's oak tree continued to grow proud and strong, symbolizing the growth Rockford was experiencing as more and more transplants from the Northeastern United States and upstate New York moved to the city.
Later that same year, a great tornado swept through the region along the Rock River. The destruction was enormous. Yet somehow the Oakley's oak tree remained, seemingly unscathed by the devastating storm.
