Jonathan Toews hasn't announced his retirement yet, however, we can infer for the past couple years that he's done, as he hasn't played.
Toews, in his last season, missed almost all of it, as he had health issues. He came back for the final few games and played well, but Jonathan hasn't committed to a full season since.
Toews announced this statement at the end of the 2022-23 season:
«My focus is to give myself the time and space to fully heal and enjoy life to the fullest once again. Along the way I have met several people who have struggled with health issues pertaining to long COVID, chronic immune response syndrome, and other similar cases that are quite complex. I now recognize the importance of one day sharing the details of my health journey with you all.»
Toews went to the Burning Man event last week, and he said on Instagram that it opened his mind up even more, possibly hinting that he's done.
Toews shouldn't come back. He's won his Stanley Cups, was captain of the Chicago Blackhawks, and made his money. Jonathan's living his best life, and he should continue to enjoy it instead of coming back to the hassle of an 82-game schedule.
