3 Blackhawks Trade Candidates After Taylor Hall Deal
The Chicago Blackhawks were part of a complex trade that sent Taylor Hall, to the Carolina Hurricanes.
In the trade, the Chicago Blackhawks retained 50% of
Mikko Rantanen's salary, received a 2025 3rd-round draft pick, and prospect Nils Juntorp in return.
Since GM Kyle Davidson facilitated the trade, there's speculation that they could continue to move veterans out of the lineup to get assets for players who contenders covet.
Who are three Blackhawks veterans on the trade block?
Seth Jones's name has been swirling in the rumor mills lately, as the team has received interest in the top-pairing defenseman.
There's been speculation that the veteran could end up playing for a Stanley Cup contender, whether in Edmonton or elsewhere, but nothing has been confirmed as of yet.
Before a deal is finalized, they'll have to consider how they make a trade appealing when he makes $9.5 million AAV. GM Kyle Davidson would have to convince him to waive his no-movement clause and find a team agreeable with Jones.
He's played fairly well this season, scoring 20 points in 31 games for the Hawks, and has been a mentor to
Alex Vlasic. Would he waive his no-movement clause (NMC) to go to Edmonton?
Pat Maroon is a three-time Stanley Cup-winning forward and knows what it takes to finish the post-season journey in the NHL.
Could he be trade bait for another contender in March? Maroon has an easy-to-stomach cap hit, with being owed only $1.3 million, and could serve on a contending team's fourth line.
He has 13 points (2 G, 11 A) in 43 games with the Blackhawks this season.
Donato has proven to be one of the Blackhawks' most productive and versatile forwards this season. He's played up and down the entire lineup and began the season on the fourth line.
This season he's scored 28 points ( 14 G, 14 A) and at one point was leading the Hawks in goals this season, before
Tyler Bertuzzi's resurgence.
Donato's is an attractive trade option for the Hawks, as he has no trade protection, and has an affordable cap hit of $2 million AAV.
He's made DailyFaceOff's trade target list, as Frank Seravalli feels contenders could find a spot for him.
"He's been impactful and competitive and someone both coaching staffs in Chicago have relied upon in the midst of a career year. Donato is also relatively inexpensive and could be a quality under-the-radar addition."
These three players could be key pieces to keep moving the rebuild forward for GM Kyle Davidson. He just needs to make sure he receives proper compensation for each player after last night's trade.
