As part of the 2022 NHL entry draft, Buffalo Sabres prospect Matt Savoie was selected ninth overall.
In his NHL career, he has only played one game for the Buffalo Sabres, before returning to the WHL. He experienced 6 games of AHL hockey with the Rochester Americans in his time on call-up.
Upon returning to the Wild, he posted 11 goals and 24 points in 11 games, going on a literal tear in the juniors. It would enable the Wild to reach 23-13-3, placing them in second place in the Western Hockey League.
Having done all that, the Wenatchee Wild would end up being sellers as the Moose Jaw Warriors made a blockbuster trade to acquire the 19-year-old Center.
As part of the deal, Moose Jaw would receive Matthew Savoie while Wenatchee Wild would receive a bunch of draft picks in return: 1st, 3rd, and 6th round picks in 2024, 8th round picks in 2025, 2nd round picks in 2026, and 1st and 4th round picks in 2027.
This is mind-numbing how many picks the Wild have received for the Sabres prospect, but the Wild's pipeline should always be full for sure after this one.
