50-goal scorers days in New York nearing end: a major report surfaces
According to Rangers Insider Vince Mercogliano, the team is motivated to move Kreider. It doesn't matter whether it'll be the March deadline or July.
Kreider's the longest-tenured Rangers player, wearing the team's crest for 13 years and being one of the team's top goal-scorers the last three seasons.
In the last three campaigns, he's scored 30 goals or more and has been a key piece in the front of the net for the team's power play.
GM Chris Drury has made difficult moves starting with the trade of
Jacob Trouba early in the season, and later with
Kaapo Kakko, and
Filip Chytil, we shouldn't expect Kreider to be safe.
Kreider wowed us all in 2021, scoring 52 goals, and would follow up that campaign with three consecutive 30-goal seasons.
It makes sense as his shooting percentage would drop, as would his production.
However, we didn't expect it to take a nosedive like it did this season, scoring only 21 points (17 G, 4 A) in 48 games for the Rangers.
He's been dealing with a nagging back injury that bothered him at the beginning of the season, perhaps part of the reason for his lack of production.
Now, it has taken him out of the lineup, and we're not sure whether or not we'll see him suit up for the Rangers again.
For now, GM Chris Drury will have to consider his 15-team no-trade clause, and $6.5 million dollar salary before making a move.
Will he have to retain a percentage to make a deal work?
Ideally, if this is a retool, yes, and seeing as he moved Trouba with ease he shouldn't have trouble finding him a new home.
