Tragic news strikes the hockey world with passing of former NHL defensemen at 52

Former Ottawa Senators and Dynamo Moscow defenseman, Dmitri Filimonov, has passed away suddenly at the age of 52.
Filimonov was drafted by the Winnipeg Jets in the 1991 NHL draft but continued to play in Russia for Dynamo Moscow before his rights were traded to the Ottawa Senators.
He played 30 games for the Senators, scoring 5 points (1 goal, 4 assists).
He also played in the AHL for the Prince Edward Island Senators and later in the Finnish Elite League.
Filimonov returned to Russia in 1997 to play in the Russia Super League, known today as the KHL, with Perm Molot before retiring in 2006.
In 1991, he represented the Soviet National Team at the Canada Cup, the last year the tournament was held and the last event played by a USSR Hockey team before the dissolution of the Soviet Republics.
His funeral is scheduled for Monday. May he Rest in Peace.
