Free agent forward Nikolaj Ehlers selects his next team in surprising decision

The DailyFaceoff's Frank Seravalli gave us insight into the Nikolaj Ehlers sweepstakes, as the forward will not be re-signing with the Winnipeg Jets this offseaso and has just made a crucial choice in free agency.
With Mitch Marner, Brad Marchand, and Brock Boeser off the board, there remains one top winger left. Coveted UFA, Nikolaj Ehlers, who played for the Winnipeg Jets last season.
A season where he scored 63 points (29-34), and was in the top-six for the playoff-contending team.
Instead of re-signing in Winnipeg this year, he felt it was necessary to belt on himself and test free agency.
We're left pondering where he'll sign next, but NHL Insider Frank Seravalli has some juicy details on where he will land in 2025.
Ehlers makes bold free agency decision
According to Seravalli, Ehlers has made selected his next NHL destination in a surprise decision: the forward has crossed every team off of his list aside from the Carolina Hurricanes and Washington Capitals.
The former Winnipeg Jets forward is due a significant raise after his $42 million deal expired at the end of this season.
According to the website The Fourth Period, Ehlers could command a new deal upwards of $8-9 million AAV this offseason.
Ehlers has played his entire NHL career with the Winnipeg Jets, and now, like Mitch Marner, he could head south into the United States to join another contending team in the NHL.
Ehlers has played 674 games in the NHL and has scored a total of 520 points (225-295) and 222 PIMs. He's played a total of 45 playoff games, adding 21 points (9-12) to his career totals.
