Carolina Hurricanes kick Stanley Cup Champion to the curb during off-season retool

The Carolina Hurricanes are reportedly undergoing a significant re-tooling process this off-season and have a number of pending free-agents who will likely be finding new homes next season.

First up on the list, who'll be the most sought after out of the handful of free agents they have is Teuvo Teravainen.

Now considered a '29 year old veteran', Blackhawks fans greatly remember Teravainen as a rookie on a stacked Chicago Blackhawks team. He is coming off a five year, $27 million dollar contract. At 29, he is still in his prime, setting a new career high in goals last season with 25 goals, and 53 points.

Come July 1st he will hit the open market, and according to Shane Seney of NHLTR the Blackhawks are the number-one favorites to land the former forward.

'Teravainen was a former first-round pick of the Blackhawks back in 2012 and there could be a reunion this summer. GM Kyle Davidson has quickly realized that Connor Bedard is the real deal and now the tides have shifted in the windy city with more emphasis on NHL proven talent this offseason. Teravainen is the kind of offensive talent and experienced winger the Blackhawks would and should be adding more of. They have boat loads of cap space so money isn't an issue.

Seney mentions two other teams, Utah (formerly Arizona) as well as the Buffalo Sabres to be interested in signing him- but there's one issue for them, the Blackhawks have a whopping $35M in free cap to spend and will make anything work to provide support for Connor Bedard.
