With Connor Bedard's arrival, he has the burden of living up to huge expectations from the team, league, and fans. In the interim, it will be hard to fill Toews' role since he has served as Captain since July 2008.
With the NHL's 32 for 32 series, there was an interesting question asked, who would be the next Blackhawks captain? There was talk of Seth Jones, whose contract is signed long-term with the team, and Connor Murphy, the longest-tenured Blackhawk, but a third option was discussed as well.
According to them, the Oilers and Blackhawks were in a similar position, with the captaincy vacant until McDavid was appointed.
It would be a great idea for the Blackhawks to follow suit, since Bedard is already the face of the franchise, and there are many advantages in waiting.
Bedard could easily earn the Captain's C if he plays up to expectations and stays with the team for some time, just like Jonathan Toews, who served from 2008 to 2023.
