Brian O'Neil Passes Away at 94
We have lost another great one in the hockey world.
Brian O'Neil passed away yesterday at the age of 94.
O'Neil was born in Montreal, and from there was hired by President Clarance Campbell in 1966 as the league's director of administration, and was put in charge of making the 1967-1968 schedule and adding six more teams into the NHL, doubling the size of the league. Brian was then put as NHL Vice President after Campbell stepped down in 1977 and retired in 1992.
O'Neil served our game for more than 50 years, and he grew it the best he could in a time when the league was pretty small, and lived long enough to see it grow.
We all send our deepest condolences to the O'Neil family. A memorial is being held in Montreal on September 2nd.
