Apparently Connor Bedard is frustrating to interview?
In his answers to reporters, Connor Bedard is humble and tempers his answers, as he has done this before. As the first overall pick in the 2023 draft, you'd expect him to be more confident and less humble, but more often than not, he knows just what to say.
While he has yet to lace up his skates for an NHL game, he is quickly becoming one of the faces of the new NHL youth movement.
It's just in interviews,» he says with a knowing grin. «People don't see the behind-the-scenes stuff. I'm not saying that I'm not a calm guy. I think I am. But I care so much about hockey. I expect a lot of myself, and I want to do well and help my team win. But when I'm getting asked questions, it's just, you know, giving an answer. I don't want to sound rude at all, but what the outside world and reporters and whatnot say, it doesn't really have any effect on me. It's great for the game to have (people talking about hockey), but for me, I focus on myself, my team and my family.
Nevertheless, Mark Lazerus of The Athletic who reports for the Blackhawks did his best to get an interview with Bedard in an inopportune moment, which apparently frustrated Lazerus as Bedard knows just what to say!
When Mark Lazerus of The Athletic was the latest to attempt to push Bedard with questions about pressure and his future in the league, the kid remained cool as a cucumber. Which prompted Lazerus to tell Bedard that he says all the right, boring things, which can be seen as him being «rather frustrating to talk to.»
While Bedard remains humble about the Lazerus comment, he recalls his early days playing hockey at the age of 5 or 6.
As Bedard works towards his NHL and other goals, he keeps the minutiae behind the scenes, which frustrates all the reporters.
At the moment, he is staying away from social media and training to become one of the best in the NHL.
