Bobby Hull became the first player in NHL history to have four 50-goal seasons on March 5, 1969, when he scored twice in the Chicago Blackhawks' 4-4 tie with the New York Rangers. He set a new league record by scoring 58 goals in the 1968–1969 campaign. Maurice Richard and Bernie Geoffrion, two legendary Montreal Canadiens players, were the only other players to have 50-goal seasons at the time.
When Marcel Dionne scored in a 3-3 draw with the Pittsburgh Penguins on March 5, 1977, he became the first player in Los Angeles Kings history to record a 100-point season. He also made NHL history by amassing 100 points for two separate clubs after scoring 121 points in 1974–75 with the Detroit Red Wings. He picked up an assist in a 6-0 victory over the Penguins eight years later to become the first NHL player to have eight seasons with 100 points.
